What is happening?

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY 

Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by the Water Act 2003) Notice of application for a transfer licence to abstract (take) water 

Holcim UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences. 

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The first application is for a licence to abstract water from the sand and gravel at Newbold Quarry, Staffordshire between National Grid References (NGRs) SK 20729 21312, SK 21092 21607, SK 20952 20862 and SK 21414 21110 to transfer it to an onsite lake at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 20429 21059 without intervening use.

This application is to abstract water as follows: 
• 1,075 cubic metres an hour • 9,770 cubic metres a day 
• 3,139,000 cubic metres a year. Abstraction will take place year-round, dewatering an extended the area of the quarry.

The second application is for a licence to abstract water from the onsite lake at Newbold Quarry, Staffordshire at: 
• NGR SK 20436 20927 to transfer it to the Triangular Lake at NGR SK 21002 20703 and the Marley Fishing Lake at NGR SK 21002 20836 without intervening use. • between NGRs SK 20484 21085, SK 20082 21168, SK 19960 20550 and SK 20348 20390 to transfer it to the Dunstall Brook at NGR SK 20430 20050 without intervening use.

This application is to abstract water as follows: To Triangular Lake and Marley Fishing Lake: 
• 85 cubic metres an hour 
• 680 cubic metres a day 
• 248,200 cubic metres a year. To Dunstall Brook: 
• 1,075 cubic metres an hour 
• 9,770 cubic metres a day 
• 3,139,000 cubic metres a year. 

Abstraction will take place year-round. The purpose of this abstraction is to maintain water levels in the Triangular Lake and Marley Fishing Lake, and to discharge excess water to Dunstall Brook.
