What is happening?

Closed church of St James Castle Eden
Relocation of headstones in accordance with
Disused Burial Grounds (Amendment) Act 1981

I hereby give notice of a proposal to move certain headstones and monuments located in a part of the churchyard of the closed church of St James Castle Eden which will become private following conversion of the church into a dwelling. A plan of the stones to be moved can be inspected at the church.
The particulars of those deceased persons whose tombstones, monuments or other memorials commemorating them can be found on the notice at the church and are as follows:
John Todd 1780;
Mary Ellen 1882, Mary Ann Dobson infant, Ann Lowther 1885, Lydia infant,
Robert Elstob 1799-1884
Andrew Embleton (undated), daughter Mary Eleanor 1872, Thomas, son Elizabeth wife of John Jameson 1867, also of Thomas and other children
The Headstones will be relocated within the existing graveyard at the closed church of St James Castle Eden against the boundary wall nearest to their current location west of the private garden area.
Any personal representatives or relatives of any of those deceased persons may undertake the removal and reinterment or cremation of the remains of the deceased and the removal and disposal of any tombstone, monument or other memorial commemorating the deceased within two months from the date of the notice. Czero Developments Limited will defray the reasonable expenses of such removal and reinterment or cremation and of such removal and disposal.
No directions have given by the Secretary of State with respect to the removal of any tombstones, monuments or other memorials other than that Memorials, headstones and tombstones should ideally only be moved to the side of a burial ground.
