Pre-Application Public Consultation, with revision of boundaries to
reflect peat management and refinement of landfall options
Notice is hereby given that Spiorad na Mara Limited (Company Number SC717716 with registered office at the Regus Building, 1st Floor, 93 George Street, Edinburgh, United Kingdom, EH2 3ES) plans to hold pre-application consultation events in relation to an application for full planning permission under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 (as amended) to construct onshore transmission works in association with the Spiorad na Mara Offshore Wind Farm. This notice updates the previously approved Pre Application Public Consultation Notice Ref 24/00327/PAN, to reflect refinement of the landfall location and inclusion of peat management areas.
The onshore works, inland of the Mean Low Water Mark (MLWM), for the proposed Spiorad na Mara Offshore Wind Farm consists of:
Up to 12 cables exporting electricity from the offshore wind farm to transition joint bays (TJBs) at the landfall located north-east of Barvas on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis;
up to 2 onshore substations being:
a Landfall Substation (if required) to be located close to the final selected landfall location and TJBs;
a Grid Substation located near the proposed Scottish and Southern Energy Networks (SSEN) Converter Station;
export cable circuits linking the TJBs to the Landfall Substation and subsequently to the Grid Substation, or (in the event that a landfall substation is not required) 2 export cable circuits linking the TJBs to the Grid Substation; and
2 export cable circuits from the Grid Substation to the SSEN Converter Station;
peat management areas;
associated infrastructure including (but not limited to):
temporary construction compounds;
landscaping;
drainage;
parking/servicing areas;
access tracks and road alterations;
cycleway/ multi-use pathway.
Information about the proposed onshore transmission works and the Spiorad na Mara Offshore Wind Farm can be obtained at the following pre-application consultation events, to be held on the dates, and at the times and locations, below. The consultation events will provide an opportunity for the public and stakeholders to obtain information about, and to consider and comment on, the prospective application(s).

All comments need to be received by 5pm, 2nd July 2025.
Please note that all feedback provided during this consultation process will be to the Spiorad na Mara project team and not to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. There will be an opportunity to make submissions to Comhairle nan Eilean Siar once the project submits its planning application and associated Environmental Impact Assessment Report, at a later date.
