New Street Traders Consent

Reading Borough Council is now taking expressions of interest in respect of 5 x new Street Trading stalls that will occupy licensed pitches on street locations in the town.

New Designated Pitch Locations

Broad Street

1 x pitch

Reading Station

3 x pitches

Town Hall

1 x pitch

Specifications

These designated pitches would suit an established trader, whose vehicles or stalls have previously been licensed by a Local Authority.

Any trader will need to satisfy the conditions contained in Reading Borough Council's Street trading policy which can be found on our www.reading.gov.uk

• Please note, that we encourage all applicants to check with Reading Borough Council before purchasing any stall or vehicle.

• interested traders are advised to visit the pitch location/s before committing to any application.

• Please note, there are no on-site parking spaces available for traders, but you may stop in a loading bay, as long as it is being used for its purpose.

• The current fee for town centre pitches is £6129 pa, (subject to annual increases).

Times of operation to be agreed but must fall within the parameters of 07:00 - 23:00, minimum 6 days per week, throughout the year. No fee is required at this initial stage.

Food Traders

Food traders must be registered as food businesses with a Local Authority and have at least a current (within 3 years) Level 2 food safety certificate in place.

The consent holder will be required to work at the pitch a minimum of 5 days a week. No sub-letting of any consent is permitted.

Electric

The Council are proposing to install power points in the new pitch locations for stall holders to use by prior arrangement.

How to make an expression of interest

All expression of interest must be submitted in writing and contain full details of the vehicle/stall that they wish to trade out of and include the following:

1. List whether you intend to sell food or non-food with some detail.

2. Attach a coloured image of the interior and exterior of the vehicle/stall that you wish to trade out of.

3. Please specify the size and dimensions of the vehicle/stall.

4. List any main equipment that will be brought to site, including non-powered items. (For those powered items, please provide details of certification).

The date for expression of interest

Although we invite expressions of interest from current Reading Street traders, preference will be given to new traders, who live within or near the Borough of Reading.

The date for expressions of interest will commence from Thursday 16th January 2025 until 31st January 2025.

Any expressions of interest received after 12.00hrs (midday) on this date will not be considered. Please note, the licensing team may take some time to look at all the proposals received and ask that you wait to be contacted.

If your submission application is incomplete or is received after the deadline, it will be rejected.

The successful applicant

The successful applicant (subject to a 28-day consultation) will be informed in writing and expected to submit a completed application within 14 days of the notification date and to commence trading within an agreed time frame. The annual fee is currently £6129 (subject to annual increase).

If a completed application is not received by this office, within 14 days, the offer will lapse and the pitch may be offered to another suitable applicant or readvertised. The decision of the Licensing team is final.
