Arrangements for Primary School Enrolment and Transfer to Secondary School

Tuesday 19 August 2025

Primary School Enrolment

The 2025/2026 school year starts on Tuesday 19 August 2025.

All children who are five years old on or before 19 August 2025 must start their primary school education on that date. Parents/ carers of children who are five years old between 20 August 2025 and 28 February 2026 should be aware they may choose not to enrol their children until August 2026. Parents/carers should seek advice from staff at their nursery if they are considering deferred entry.

Parents/carers should register their child for primary school during the week 6 January to 10 January 2025.

Parents should register their child for primary school online by accessing: www.pkc.gov.uk > Schools and Learning > School enrolment > School enrolment. When you register your child online you will need to provide your child’s birth certificate, your 2024/2025 Council Tax demand notice, and a recent utility bill as proof that you live permanently at your address. If you are registering at a denominational school and your child has been baptised, you should also provide their baptismal certificate. A photograph of your evidence taken from your smart phone is acceptable.

Alternatively, applications can be made by arranging to visit your local catchment area primary school. Further information on this option is available at www.pkc.gov.uk > Schools and Learning > School enrolment > School enrolment.

Should parents/carers wish their child to attend a primary school other than their local catchment area school, they must submit a placing request and should not register their child at the local catchment school.

Transfer to Secondary School
Parents/carers of children who are transferring to secondary school education on Tuesday 19 August 2025 will be advised by letter during week commencing 6 January 2025 that their child has been allocated a place in their local catchment area secondary school.

Should parents/carers wish their child to attend a secondary school other than their local catchment area secondary school, they must submit a placing request even if their child already attends an associated primary school of the chosen secondary school.

Placing Requests
Parents/carers who wish to make a placing request for their child to attend a school other than their local catchment school for school session 2025/2026 must submit a placing request application no later than 15 March 2025. Placing request applications should be submitted online by accessing: www.pkc.gov.uk > Schools and Learning > School enrolment > School placing requests. Alternatively, application forms can be obtained from any Perth & Kinross Council school or from Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth.

Gaelic Medium Education (GME)
GME is a free bilingual education option available within Perth & Kinross at Goodlyburn Primary School and Breadalbane Academy. You can enrol your child into GME at Primary 1.
