Proposal to change the age range of Maple Grove Primary School, Hemel
Hempstead from 3 to 11 years to 2 to 11 years to enable the school to offer
nursery provision to 2-year-old children from January 2025.
Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act
2006 that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Maple
Grove Primary School, St Agnell's Lane, Grove Hill, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7BG, a
community school. The proposals are planned to be implemented from January 2025.
Hertfordshire County Council proposes to change the admissions age range of Maple
Grove Primary School (“the school”) by altering the lower age limit from 3 to 11 years to
2 to 11 years, to enable the school to offer nursery provision to 2-year-old children with
effect from January 2025.
The school has a nursery class which offers places to children aged 3 and 4 years old.
On the school site there was an independent pre-school offering childcare places for
children aged 2 years and above including free places to disadvantaged younger
children. The pre-school has closed due to issues with staffing and places for our most
vulnerable families has been lost as a result.
The school wish to continue this offer and by lowering the school admission age this will
support the long-term sustainability of the school and enable the most disadvantaged
children to have access to early years education in the community.
Currently the school has nursery capacity for 30 children in the morning and 30 children
in the afternoon; it is proposed that this number will not change, but up to 30 of the
children will be 2-year-olds.
Anyone can provide comments or objections on the proposal, but you need to ensure
that they are received by Hertfordshire County Council by 29 September 2024 by
