What is happening?

Freemen or their surviving spouse or civil partner who claim to be “Marsh Grass” recipients this year for the first time should put their application in writing to: Democratic Services (MG), Town Hall, Lancaster, LA1 1PJ before 20th July 2024 stating full details of their name (and in the case of a surviving spouse or civil partner the name of their late spouse or civil partner), the qualifying address within the old boundaries of the City, and proof of residency at that address for twelve months or more. It is a condition that no Freeman or surviving spouse or civil partner of a Freeman shall become entitled to or continue to receive payment who has not been resident within the boundary of the former City of Lancaster for twelve months prior to 30th June of any year in which the income is divisible or who does not continue to reside in the City.
As a guide to claimants it should be noted that persons who enrolled in the year 1990 (in the Mayoralty of Eric Simpson) qualified last year.
The amounts due to recipients (less Income Tax) will be paid by BACS in accordance with the details provided by successful applicants as soon as is possible.
