Calderdale Moving Traffic Enforcement Consultation

Local authorities outside of London are now able to apply for powers to enforce moving traffic offences. Previously these powers were only available to the Police.
Calderdale Council will be applying for enforcement powers so that we can target key areas in the borough to:
• Make roads safer for people walking and cycling
• Reduce congestion
• Improve journey times
• Improve air quality, supporting Calderdale’s zero carbon target
• Increase safety and encourage cleaner air around schools – camera enforced school streets schemes are proven to have a positive effect.
What are Moving Traffic Offences?
Examples of moving traffic offences are:
1. Yellow box junctions – crisscross lines painted at carriageways to help aid the flow of traffic and keep spaces free for emergency vehicles
2. Driving where and when motor vehicles are prohibited, such as in pedestrianised areas or on timed road closures, like school and play streets.
We are consulting on 14 locations for moving traffic enforcement across the borough. A six-week consultation is on from 30 April until 11 June 2024.
Have your say on our proposals: To view details of the plans and complete our online survey, scan the QR code below or search online: Calderdale Moving Traffic Enforcement Commonplace
Printed copies of the consultation can be found at the following libraries:
Halifax, Brighouse, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge, and Todmorden.
