What is happening?

ADVERTISEMENT - NOTICE PERSUANT TO SCHEDULE 5A PARAGRAPH 2(2)
in respect of an Initial Demolition Notice
TAKE NOTICE that MILTON KEYNES CITY COUNCIL of Civic Offices, 1 Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes, MK9 3EJ (“the Council”) intends to demolish the following properties (“the Relevant Properties”) at:
Numbers: 66, 68, 70, 72, 74, 76, 78, 80, 82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96, 98, 100 Avon House, Avon Grove, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK3 7BS
Numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 Cherwell House, Derwent Drive, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK3 7BJ
Numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 Doune House, Torre Close, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK3 6NQ

The reason for the intended demolition of the Relevant Properties is due to the degradation of the hollow panel concrete REEMA blocks used in the construction of the blocks due to carbonisation in turn reducing the affordable maintainable life of the blocks. The required level of intervention works and repairs to slow degradation of the concrete panels is not financially viable and will become increasingly significant and intrusive to residents. A program of phased decanting of residents has been developed to facilitate the decommissioning of the building and demolition of the Relevant Properties to provide future development opportunities.
The Council intends to demolish the Relevant Properties by 9 May 2031, being no more than seven years after the date of service of the Initial Demolition Notice.
This Notice will remain in force up to and including 9 May 2031 unless it has been revoked or otherwise terminated under the provisions of paragraph 3 of Schedule 5A to the Act.
Whilst this Notice is in force the Council shall be under no obligation to make such a grant as is mentioned in Section 138(1) of the Act in respect of any claim to exercise the right to buy of properties which form part of the Relevant Properties.
If the Council subsequently serves a Final Demolition Notice in respect of the Relevant Properties, the right to buy will not arise whilst that notice is in force and any existing claim in respect of any Relevant Properties will cease to be effective.
There may be a right to compensation under Section 138C of the Act in relation to certain expenditure incurred in respect of any existing claim.
