ENVIRONMENT AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended)
Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
Compton Dando Flume Improvements
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out repair and small scale improvement works to the existing river flow gauging flume within the River Chew at Compton Dando, approximately 10 miles west of Bath (Grid ref: ST64811464722).
The proposed improvement works will involve the following: The flume structure now requires some major repairs caused by erosion. We are adding large stone upstream and downstream of the existing flume to protect it. An eel pass will also be implemented to open up more upstream habitat for this critically endangered species.
The work will begin in June 2024 and will aim to finish in September 2024.
The Environment Agency considers that the repair and improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. We have completed preliminary ecological surveys on site and are applying best practise mitigation measures to prevent/minimise the impact to protected species. Please contact the Rivers House, Bridgwater office if you wish to understand or view the works in more detail. Contact is Nigel Smith and Rob Jones.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
