What is happening?

Section 16 of the Commons Act 2006

Proposed deregistration of common land/town or village green at: THE VILLAGE GREEN (VG28) at West Wittering
West Wittering Parish Council has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under section 16 of the Commons Act 2006 for land forming part of the above-mentioned registered village green* (the “release land”) to cease to be so registered. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State.
The purpose of this application is to release land which in practice has not been used as a village green for a number of years and to replace it with adjacent open grassland increasing the area protected by village green status for the public to enjoy for exercise and recreation.
It is proposed that land (the “replacement land”) be registered as a village green in place of the release land to complement the existing village green.
The release land is described in the First Schedule to this notice, and the replacement land is described in the Second Schedule.
A copy of the application form and accompanying documents can be inspected at The Pavilion, Rookwood Road, Chichester PO20 8LT between the hours of 9.30am – 1pm Monday and Wednesday, and at Witterings Library, Oakfield Avenue, East Wittering, PO20 8BT between the hours of 1pm – 5pm Monday – Wednesday, and between the hours of 9am – 1pm on Saturdays until 13 May 2024. A copy of the application may be obtained by writing to give address West Wittering Parish Council, The Pavilion, Rookwood Road, Chichester PO20 8LT.
Any representations in respect of the proposed deregistration and exchange should be sent in writing ON or BEFORE that date to: Common Land Team, The Planning Inspectorate, 3A Temple Quay House, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN or commonlandcasework@ planninginspectorate.gov.uk.

FIRST SCHEDULE
(The release land)
The release land comprised 68.424 m2 and forms part of The Village Green, West Wittering, Chichester PO20 8AJ and registered under title number SX42314.
The release land is off of Pound Road and forms the verge outside of Springwell Cottages, Pound Road PO20 8AJ
SECOND SCHEDULE
(The replacement land)
The replacement land comprises 671.904 m 2 and lies to the east side and adjacent to The Village Green, West Wittering on which the public conveniences are sited.
The land is known as the Public Conveniences, Pound Road, West Wittering, Chichester PO20 8AJ and is registered under title number WSX327007.
