In accordance with section 75(6) of the Local Government Act 2003 and section 12(6) of the Local Government Finance Act 2012 the Council gives notice of a determination of Council Tax discounts/premiums from 1 April 2024 as follows:
Second homes – dwellings which are normally unoccupied and furnished will receive a discount of 0% (and from 1 April 2025 Second homes will have the Council Tax charge increased by 100%)
Empty properties – dwellings which are normally unoccupied and unfurnished will receive a discount of 0% for all periods.
Long term empty properties – dwellings which are normally unoccupied and unfurnished for a period of less than 1 year will receive a discount
of 0%.
Long term empty properties – dwellings which are normally unoccupied and unfurnished for a period of longer than 1 year or more will receive a discount of 0% and have the Council Tax charge increased by 100%.
Dwellings which are normally unoccupied and unfurnished for a period longer than 5 years or more will receive a discount of 0% and have the Council Tax charge increased by 200%.
Dwellings which are normally unoccupied and unfurnished for a period longer than 10 years or more will receive a discount of 0% and have the Council Tax charge increased by 300%.
Empty and unfurnished properties requiring or undergoing structural repair or alteration or major repair works will receive a discount of 0% for all periods.
Local discount – exceptions to the above (as defined in the above Acts) and dwellings meeting locally defined criteria will receive a discount of 0% - 100%.
