Renewable energy company Apatura is looking to bring forward a 100 megawatt (MW) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on land east of Old Glasgow Road, by Kilwinning sub-station.

Our public consultation event outlined here highlights how you can find out more about the development and provide your valued feedback, prior to the submission of a planning application.

Facilities such as this play a key role in tackling climate change, with their ability to store electricity for later use, with the stored energy discharged back into the grid network when needed.

This is vital as we move towards the replacement of polluting fossil fuels with low-cost, low carbon renewable electricity, which is not generated when the wind, for example, is not blowing or the sun not shining.

Please note that this is an application to Scottish Ministers under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989, and there will be the opportunity to provide comment to Ministers once the application is submitted.
