ENVIRONMENT AGENCY
ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE
AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage
Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
BENSON WEIR REFURBISHMENT
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out both
improvement and refurbishment works to Benson Weir (Address: Benson Weir,
Wallingford, OX10 6SL/ National Grid Reference: SU613 912).
We are replacing the radial gates, associated headwork, walkways, supporting
steelwork and associated works. A new fish pass and maintenance access
area are to be constructed.
There will be two temporary compounds to support the works. A main
compound will be located 1km upstream (National Grid Reference: SU609 918).
The Satelite compound will be located adjacent to the weir (National Grid
Reference: SU613 912).
The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely
to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare
an environmental statement in respect of them. We have produced an Non
Statutory Environmental Report, which lays out how we intend to manage the
environmental impacts on site. A copy is available on request from the contact
below. With reference to Schedule 2 of the Environmental Impact Assessment
(Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 (as amended), as well as
the characteristics of the improvement works, the location of the improvement
works and the type and characteristics of the potential impact, it is considered
that the proposed works will not have a significant effect on the environment.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely
environmental effects of the proposed improvement works may do so, in
writing, to the email address specified below within 30 days of the date of
publication of this notice.
