ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783
MINEHEAD ROCK ARMOUR – THE WARREN
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the flood defences on ‘The Warren in Minehead’ between Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club on Warren Road (Grid Reference: SS 98316 46460) and Dunster Beach (Grid Reference SS 99743 45465), a distance of two kilometres. The proposed improvement works will involve the following: Temporary closure of the coastal footpath to allow strengthening and re-instatement of raised defences using rock armour.
The Environment Agency considers that the rock armour improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. The main reason for not completing a environmental statement is due to the project ‘preliminary ecological appraisal report’ concluding that there is low likelihood of encountering significant environmental receptors. The project team are however working with partners to safeguard receptors it has identified, this includes Minehead Heritage features along its coastline. However the poor current condition promotes this task to be completed at pace. The work will reduce flood risk and avoid further deterioration of localised sections of the raised defences on the Warren. Further detail on the planned work can be found on the town council website: https://mineheadtowncouncil.co.uk/minehead-coastal-erosion-protection Preliminary ecology reports of The Warren raised defences are made avaliable at local Environment Agency Offices (Rivers House, East Quay, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 4YS) during normal office hours (mon-fri 9am to 5pm) by prior appointment.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
Michael Lake – Rivers House, East Quay, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 4YS.
