NOTICE is herby given that Preston City Council has, on 9 December 2021, considered a report from the Council’s Independent Remuneration Panel – Members’ Allowances. The report made recommendations to the Council with regard to the allowances to be paid to Members in 2022/23 and 2023/24. The Council agreed that:-
(i) rescinded its decision taken in December 2021, and the Members’ Allowances Scheme should no longer be linked to any pay award for staff covered by the National Joint Council for Local Government Services;
(ii) that the Members’ Allowances Scheme for 2022/23 should be increased by 4.00% and backdated to 1 April 2022;
(iii) resolved that there should be no increase in the Members’ Allowances Scheme for 2023/24 to reflect the uncertain economic climate and austere times facing individuals;
(iv) resolved that a thorough review of the Members’ Allowances Scheme should be undertaken in 2024/25 to ensure that it remains fit for purpose following a period of austerity; and
(v) noted that as no representations were received in respect of the Members’ Allowances Scheme, in respect of Parish Councils, there would be no alterations to the current scheme.
Copies of the report and minutes of the Members Allowances IRP and the Council are available for inspection, free of charge, between 8.00am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday at the Town Hall, Lancaster Road, Preston and on the internet at www.preston.gov.uk.
