Notice of application for a full licence to abstract (take) water
Baslow Environment Projects Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from River Derwent at Baslow Weir, Baslow, Derbyshire at National Grid Reference (NGR): SK 24965 72540.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
• 16,920 cubic metres (m3) an hour
• 406,080 m3 a day
• 89,175,168 m3 a year
• All year.
The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation. All the abstracted water will be returned to the River Derwent downstream at NGR: SK 24975 72520.
Further details are: The existing impoundment (Baslow Weir) will not be modified as part of the proposal. The proposal will create a channel around the west end of Baslow Weir where a 50 kilowatt output screw turbine will be located.
