PUBLIC NOTICE OF THE NEWCASTLE
CITY COUNCIL DESIGNATION OF AN AREA FOR SELECTIVE LICENSING 2026.
The Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne in exercise of its power under section 80 of the Housing Act 2004 (“the Act”) has designated for Selective Licensing the two areas described below. This designation shall apply to the streets as described in Parts 1-2
PART 1
Greater High Cross Area

CITATION, COMMENCEMENT AND DURATION
This designation may be cited as The Newcastle City Council Designation of an Area for Selective Licensing 2026.
This designation is made on 24 February 2026 and shall come into force on 30 September 2026. The Housing Act 2004: Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation and Selective Licensing of other Residential Accommodation (England) General Approval 2024 applies to this designation. This designation shall remain in effect up to and including 29 September 2031 or earlier if the Council revokes the scheme under section 84 of the Act.

CONSEQUENCES OF FAILING TO LICENCE A PROPERTY
Private landlords who own property in the area or any person who controls or manages property in the area will be required from 30 September 2026 to apply for a licence.
Applications for licences can be obtained at the above address. Failure to licence a property if required, may lead to prosecution and an unlimited fine or the imposition of a civil penalty.
