Banbury Area - Enviromental Licence to Abstract Water

What is proposed?

Environment Agency
Water Resources Act 1991 (as amended by the Water Act 2003) notice of application to vary a transfer licence to abstract (take) water Earthline Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number TH/039/0014/027 to abstract water from underground strata comprising Limestone at Shipton Quarry, Shipton-onCherwell, Oxfordshire from an area contained within National Grid References (NGRs) SP 47757 17769, SP 48195 17593, SP 48282 17146 and SP 47767 17137 for the purpose of transferring it without intervening use to the River Cherwell at NGRs SP 48170 17650 or SP 47780 17800.
The variation applied for is:
• To increase abstraction rates from 46 litres per second, 166 cubic metres per hour, 3,975 cubic metres per day and 985,652 cubic metres per year to: 453 litres per second, 1,631 cubic metres per hour, 27,820 cubic metres per day and 3,000,000 cubic metres per year.
• To extend the area of abstraction to an area contained within NGRs SP 47504 17811, SP 48185 17628, SP 48204 17016 and SP 47343 17534.
All water abstracted will be returned to the River Cherwell at NGRs SP 48170 17650 or SP 47780 17800.
