What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (U2588 MURRAY ROAD AND U2728 FINKLE STREET, WORKINGTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable public realm improvement works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to:

  1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along that section of the U2588 Murray Road, Workington, from its junction with Finkle Street to its junction with Oxford Street.

    Duration: From 1 December 2025 for approx. 5 days between 1800 and 0600 hours.

    A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times and a suitable alternative route for vehicles will be signed and available via Finkle Street, Vulcan’s Lane and Oxford Street.

    N.B. (i) To facilitate the alternative route detailed above the existing one-way restriction on the U2728 Finkle Street, Workington will be temporarily suspended to allow two-way traffic flow for the duration of the Works; and (ii) Vehicular access from the northern end of the U2588 Murray Road, Workington, for deliveries to properties will be permitted when deemed safe to do so by the contractor on site.

  2. Prohibit any vehicle from waiting at any time, on any day and/or from loading and unloading, at any time, on any day (including blue badge holders) along that section of the U2728 Finkle Street, Workington (both sides) from its junction with Murray Road, to its junction with Vulcan’s Lane.

    Duration: From 1 December for approx. 5 days between 1600 and 0600 hours.

The Order will come into operation on 1 December 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
