What is happening?

BRIGHTON AND HOVE CITY COUNCIL

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC ORDER - LEWES ROAD, BRIGHTON

1. NOTICE is hereby given that Brighton & Hove City Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order pursuant to powers in Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended which when it comes into force will have the following effect: -

(a) The temporary closure of the Southbound Cycle Lane on Lewes Road, Brighton from opposite Hawkridge Court, to a point approximately 10 metres south of the junction with The Highway that the Northbound section of The Avenue becomes at Southall Avenue.

(b) The temporary suspension of the Northbound Bus Lane on Lewes Road, from the junction of Queensdown School Road for a distance of approximately 110 metres, to allow all traffic to use it whilst the running lane is closed.

(c) The temporary prohibition of the right hand turn movement onto Lewes Road, Brighton from the following roads; Queensdown School Road, the junction of The Highway that is opposite Queensdown School Road, and the junction of The Highway that the Northbound section of The Avenue becomes at Southall Avenue.

(d) The temporary suspension of the Northbound Bus Lane on Lewes Road, Moulsecomb Library for a distance of approximately 10 metres, to allow all traffic to use it whilst the running lane is closed.

(e) The temporary closure of the Northbound Cycle Lane from Moulsecomb Place Access Road to Hawkridge Court.

2. The Order is necessary to allow contractors to carry out junction improvement and traffic signal works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

3. This Order comes into force on 13th March 2024 for eighteen months or until such sooner time as the works are completed, which is anticipated to be 29 April 2024.
