Commercial Road, Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic & Stopping Due To Crane Works

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
THE A13 GLA ROAD (COMMERCIAL ROAD, LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC AND STOPPING) ORDER 2023
1. Transport for London having consulted the London Borough of Tower Hamlets hereby gives notice that it has made the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.
2. The purpose of the Order is to enable crane installation works to take place at A13 Commercial Road.
3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit:
(1) any vehicle from entering, exiting or proceeding on Commercial Road between its junctions with A11 Whitechapel High Street and White Church Lane. Local access will be maintained on Commercial Road between its junction with White Church Lane and No. 32 Commercial Road;
(2) any vehicle from stopping on White Church Lane between its junctions with Commercial Road and A11 Whitechapel Road/Whitechapel High Street;
(3) any vehicle from stopping on New Road between its junctions with Whitechapel Road and Commercial Road;
(4) pedal cycles from entering, exiting or proceeding on the south-westbound cycle track on Whitechapel High Street between its junctions with Commercial Road and Leman Street.
The Order will also prohibit any person from entering or proceeding on the:
(5) southern footway of Whitechapel High Street between its junctions with Commercial Road and Leman Street;
(6) western footway on Commercial Road between its junctions with New Drum Street and Whitechapel High Street.
The Order will be effective at certain times between the dates of 19th January 2024 and 5th February 2024, every Friday at 11:00 PM until the following Monday at 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.
5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs via (for westbound traffic) A1205 Burdett Road, A11 Mile End Road, A11 Whitechapel Road and Whitechapel High Street to normal route of travel; (for eastbound traffic on Whitechapel High Street) to normal route of travel: (for traffic on Commercial Road) White Church Lane to normal route of travel; (for cycles only on Whitechapel High Street) Leman Street and Alie Street to normal route of travel; (for pedestrians) New Drum Street, footway on east side of Commercial Road in front of Central House to normal route of travel.
