What is planned?

South Derbyshire District Council will be undertaking improvement works to the Cremated Remains Section within Church Gresley Cemetery throughout February/ March 2026 (weather permitting).
These works will consist of the following:
-The installation of an edging border to enclose the section
-The removal of all turf between each plot/memorial
-The installation of weed control membrane between each memorial
-The dressing of the section with pea shingle gravel

To enable the works to be undertaken it would be appreciated if families could arrange for all non-permanent tributes (i.e. vases, jars, ornaments etc) to be removed from the area by 2nd February 2026. Please note there is no requirement to remove temporary wooden markers/ crosses.
Any items left after this date will be removed by the Council, from where they can be collected, and stored for a period of 3 months after which they will be disposed of.

Should you have any queries regarding the proposed works please contact the Parks & Green Spaces Team by emailing: parksandgreenspaces@southderbyshire.gov.uk
