Somerset Council - Council Tax 2025/26

Notice is hereby given that SOMERSET COUNCIL, in its capacity as a Billing Authority under Section 38 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, that on 5th March 2025, Somerset Council in accordance with Section 30 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, set the following amounts of council tax for the financial year 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 for each of the categories of homes shown in the table below. The Council Tax was set by reference to the number of properties within the County of Somerset in the different valuation bands in the Inland Revenue's Valuation List compiled under the same Act. The level of Tax is expected to meet the precepts of Somerset Council, the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and, where appropriate, city councils, town councils, parish councils and parish meetings.

The total payable for properties in bands other than D can be determined by applying the following factors to the Band D total:

Band A: 6/9

Band B: 7/9

Band C: 8/9

Band E: 11/9

Band F: 13/9

Band G: 15/9

Band H: 18/9

The Act referred to allows reductions based on the number of persons resident in the property. Payment is normally made by 10 monthly installments starting in April 2025 or by a single full payment. However, payments can be spread over 12 monthly installments by contacting the Council at 0300 123 2224. A Council Tax Reduction Scheme is available for low-income payers.
